Lea Fields Crematorium
Commissioned by West Lindsey District Council, this £6 million geometrically designed new build crematorium in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire stands as a testament to our expertise in delivering sophisticated and sensitive building services engineering solutions.
Scope of Work
This state-of-the-art crematorium features a double-height chapel seating 120 people, with additional standing room, a vestry, disabled access, a hearing loop, a digital music system, recording and live streaming facilities, tribute screens, a full site PA system, internal and external toilet facilities, a waiting room, a covered floral display area, dedicated office space, memorial gardens, and a cremator. The cremator's operation provides the building's heating needs through a below-ground ducting system, ensuring discrete and efficient heating and ventilation for the Main Chapel Area.
Challenges and Solutions
To ensure we met the high standards required for this project within a 60-week timeframe, our team conducted detailed feasibility studies, budget costing, and precise mechanical and electrical designs to ensure seamless integration of all systems. The below-ground ducting system for heating and ventilation required innovative engineering solutions to maintain the building’s aesthetic integrity and functionality.
Results and Impact
Completed on time and within budget, the Lea Fields Crematorium project received the prestigious 2021 Civic Trust Award. The use of LED lighting, both internally and externally, provides flexible and inviting illumination, enhancing the serene rural setting. The facility now offers a modern, efficient, and respectful environment for memorial services, demonstrating EP Consulting’s commitment to excellence in building services engineering.
