Bramcote Crematorium Refurbishment
Overview
EP Consulting provided the mechanical and electrical design for the refurbishment of Bramcote Crematorium in Nottingham. Established in 1979 and set within 18 acres of woodland, the crematorium serves Broxtowe and Erewash Borough Councils and provides a peaceful setting for funeral services and memorialisation. Our role was to modernise the building’s mechanical and electrical systems while ensuring the facility could continue operating within a sensitive, live environment.
Mechanical and Electrical Design for Crematorium Facilities
Our engineers designed a complete upgrade of the crematorium’s mechanical and electrical building services, supporting refurbishment works and the installation of two new cremators. The project also included enabling works for new committal and witness rooms and improvements to the internal environment. Our team worked closely with the contractor and specialist suppliers to ensure the new cremation equipment was successfully integrated within the project’s 14-week construction programme.
Sustainable Design and Energy Efficiency
Sustainability was central to the design here. A Plate Heat Exchanger recovers waste heat from the cremator cooling process and repurposes it to help heat the building, reducing energy consumption and lowering carbon emissions. Combined with modern cremators that feature improved insulation, lower gas usage and reduced maintenance, the upgraded crematorium now benefits from greater efficiency, improved environmental performance and long-term operational savings.
