Modernising Pilgrim Hospital, a £750k Refurbishment for Acute Inpatient Care

EP Consulting led the £750k mechanical and electrical design for the refurbishment of Ward 12a, ‘Acute Inpatient Care,’ at Pilgrim Hospital, Boston. This project, for Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, focused on creating a safe and supportive environment for adults in serious mental distress.

Scope of Work

Our team managed feasibility studies, budget costing, and both mechanical and electrical design to meet the specific anti-ligature requirements. The project involved extensive upgrades to ensure the ward supports the safety and well-being of patients experiencing severe mental health issues.

We ensured compliance with Health Guiding Note ‘HBN’ 03-01, Health Technical Memoranda ‘HTM, CIBSE guidelines and building regulations.

Challenges and Solutions

The challenge was to retrofit the ward with advanced safety features while minimising disruption. We successfully integrated anti-ligature solutions and modernised the ward’s infrastructure to enhance patient safety and operational efficiency.

Results and Impact

The newly refurbished Ward 12a now provides a secure and optimised environment for acute inpatient care. EP Consulting’s engineering expertise has significantly improved the ward’s functionality, ensuring it meets high standards of safety and comfort for patients in crisis.
