Hartsholme Centre, a £1.6m Refurbishment Enhances Psychiatric Care in Lincoln
EP Consulting was pivotal in the £1.6m refurbishment of Hartsholme Centre, Carholme Court, Lincoln. This project transformed an operational facility into a specialised 10-bed Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit for Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, enhancing care for patients with mental health challenges.
Scope of Work
Our team managed feasibility studies, budget costing, and comprehensive mechanical and electrical design. Key updates included anti-ligature installations and the creation of a “Seclusion Suite” featuring a lounge, seclusion room, and wet room. We ensured compliance with Health Guiding Note ‘HBN’ 03-01, Health Technical Memoranda ‘HTM, CIBSE guidelines and building regulations. We produced a thermal model for the building to ensure optimal energy efficiency, created a BRUKL report and ensured compliance with Part L2 Building Regulations.
Challenges and Solutions
Refurbishing an active facility while maintaining operational integrity posed significant challenges. We successfully integrated specialised systems and created secure, supportive spaces for patients prone to self-harm or suicide attempts, ensuring minimal disruption and compliance with stringent safety standards.
Results and Impact
The revamped Hartsholme Centre now offers a dedicated and secure environment for intensive psychiatric care. EP Consulting’s expert design and engineering solutions have significantly improved patient safety and facility functionality, reflecting our commitment to high-quality, compliant building services.
