Transforming Francis Willis Unit, a £900k Refurbishment
EP Consulting expertly managed the £900k refurbishment of the Francis Willis Unit at Lincoln County Hospital for Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. This project transformed 14 bedrooms and added a specialised “Seclusion Suite” to support patients with mental health challenges.
Scope of Work
Our role encompassed feasibility studies, budget costing, and comprehensive mechanical and electrical design. We integrated anti-ligature features and expanded the unit with a new lounge, seclusion room, and wet room to create a secure and supportive environment for patients.
We ensured compliance with Health Guiding Note ‘HBN’ 03-01, Health Technical Memoranda 'HTM', CIBSE guidelines and building regulations.
Challenges and Solutions
Upgrading an operational facility to meet high safety standards required careful planning and execution. We successfully implemented anti-ligature systems and specialised areas while minimising disruption to hospital operations and maintaining regulatory compliance.
Results and Impact
The Francis Willis Unit now offers enhanced safety and functionality, providing a secure space tailored for intensive mental health care. EP Consulting’s precise engineering solutions have significantly improved patient safety and care quality, highlighting our commitment to excellence in building services engineering.
