Newholme Medical Centre, Bakewell
Overview
EP Consulting led the building services design for the new £11m Newholme Health Centre in Bakewell, Derbyshire.
Delivered for Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust and East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust, the development replaces the former hospital with a modern, purpose-built healthcare facility serving the Derbyshire Dales.
Mechanical Design
Our team delivered full mechanical design to support a wide range of NHS outpatient services and a new ambulance station. The building services were carefully coordinated to meet healthcare standards, ensuring reliability, patient comfort and efficient day-to-day operation across clinical and support spaces.
Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Design
Sustainability was a key driver for the project and the centre achieved a BREEAM Very Good rating, with energy-efficient systems designed to reduce carbon emissions and operational costs. The design also responds sensitively to its Peak District setting, balancing performance with environmental considerations.
Outcome
Completed in August 2024, the new health centre provides high-quality spaces for services including physiotherapy, audiology and mental health care. It delivers a modern, future-ready environment for patients and staff, while strengthening local healthcare provision.
The project has also been recognised as a Regional Finalist in the Civic Trust Awards 2026, reflecting its strong focus on sustainability, accessibility and long-term civic value within the Bakewell community.
