EP Consulting have proudly completed the Ashgate Medical Practice in Chesterfield for PCT Healthcare (Properties) Ltd. This £6m medical facility showcases our expertise in sustainable building services engineering solutions.

Scope of work

This four-storey facility includes a plant room, a ‘111’ Emergency Call Centre, a 24-hour ‘Out of Hours’ Surgery, pharmacies, consulting rooms, nurse treatment rooms, a minor surgery room, a children’s nursery, and café facilities, along with additional third-party space. We handled mechanical and electrical design, feasibility studies, budget costing, and the installation of low and zero carbon technologies.

Challenges and Solutions

Achieving BREEAM ‘Excellent’ certification required meticulous planning and innovative engineering solutions. The integration of a photovoltaic array and natural ventilation systems presented unique challenges which we addressed through thorough feasibility studies and precise mechanical and electrical designs, ensuring optimal functionality and sustainability.

Results and Impact

Completed in 55 weeks and on budget, the Ashgate Medical Practice’s energy-efficient features, including the photovoltaic array and natural ventilation, significantly reduce its carbon footprint. The building stands as a sustainable model in healthcare, with BREEAM ‘Excellent’ status and the project exceeding all client expectations.
