Sustainable Development at Mountbatten Centre Hostel
EP Consulting is proud to have contributed to the successful completion of the £6.8m Mountbatten Centre in Southampton. This 52-bedroom hostel, featuring a ground-floor municipal area for the Salvation Army, combines comfort, security, and sustainability to create a welcoming environment for both residents and the local community.
Scope of Work
EP Consulting led the £6.8m Mountbatten Centre project, conducting detailed feasibility studies, budget costing, and expert mechanical and electrical design. Collaborating with Cullen Carter & Hill, we integrated renewable energy solutions. We produced a thermal model for the building to ensure optimal energy efficiency, created a BRUKL report and ensured compliance with Part L2 Building Regulations.
Challenges and Solutions
Designing a functional and sustainable hostel required innovative approaches to accommodate residents' needs while maximising energy efficiency. During the 46-week project, our engineers implemented state-of-the-art mechanical and electrical systems, focusing on low-carbon solutions to create a comfortable and eco-friendly environment.
Results and Impact
The completed Mountbatten Centre demonstrates EP Consulting’s expertise in delivering high-quality engineering solutions that prioritise sustainability and community well-being. This project not only provides essential services for the Salvation Army but also sets a benchmark for sustainable building design, enhancing both social impact and environmental responsibility.
