Walton Hospital Ward and Unit Refurbishment

EP Consulting successfully completed a £550k refurbishment of the Linacre Ward and Peveril Unit at Walton Hospital in Chesterfield for the Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Trust. This extensive project involved relocating Community Services Physiotherapy and Ancillary Services to enhance patient care and improve facility efficiency.

Scope of Work

Our team provided comprehensive feasibility studies, budget costing, and detailed mechanical and electrical design services. The project included replacing outdated mechanical services with new low-pressure hot water (LPHW) heating systems, updating water services, and installing new mechanical ventilation systems.

We also managed the installation of internal, emergency, and external lighting, small power systems, and advanced telecommunications and data infrastructure. Additionally, a new nurse call system, fire and intruder alarm systems, access control, and CCTV were implemented. We produced a thermal model for the building to ensure optimal energy efficiency, created a BRUKL report and ensured compliance with Part L2 Building Regulations.

Challenges and Solutions

Throughout the 30-week project, EP Consulting collaborated closely with Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Trust to minimise disruptions. Our engineers developed solutions to integrate modern systems with existing infrastructure, addressing space constraints and optimising layouts.
