Ilkeston Community Hospital Boiler Decentralisation
EP Consulting is delighted to have successfully delivered the decentralisation of the boiler systems at Ilkeston Community Hospital for Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust. This £950k project exemplifies our ability to execute complex mechanical design and installation within stringent timeframes and operational constraints.
Scope of Work
This project involved replacing over 3,000kW of heat generating plant and domestic hot water generation systems across the hospital. The installation of modular boiler plants in five newly formed plant rooms was essential to avoid disrupting the fully operational hospital services. Additionally, we provided full gas distribution and primary connections to the existing hospital heating distribution systems.
Challenges and Solutions
The accelerated timeline, prompted by the imminent failure of the existing plant, necessitated rapid deployment and meticulous planning. EP Consulting was appointed in September, with a target completion date of the following May. To meet this deadline, our team conducted thorough surveys of the hospital services and executed the mechanical design in record time. Coordination by a Director and an assisting Engineer ensured seamless communication with the Trust, maintaining continuity throughout the design and installation process.
Results and Impact
The Ilkeston Community Hospital boiler system decentralisation was completed within the 38-week schedule and 1% under budget. The new heating and hot water systems were operational on time. The modular boiler plants and enhanced gas distribution systems have significantly improved the hospital's energy efficiency and reliability, ensuring uninterrupted services for patients and staff.
