Expansion Joint Replacement at Ilkeston Community Hospital
EP Consulting executed a £95k project at Ilkeston Community Hospital, replacing expansion joints in the hospital’s low-pressure hot water (CT & VT), chilled water, and domestic hot water systems.
Scope of Work
Our team conducted feasibility studies, budget costing, and mechanical design to ensure the successful replacement of expansion joints. Expansion joints are crucial components that accommodate the thermal expansion and contraction of materials due to temperature changes, preventing stress and damage to the system.
By replacing the outdated joints, we aimed to improve the efficiency and reliability of the hospital's water systems. We worked closely with Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Trust, adhering to Part L2 Building Regulations to optimise energy efficiency and system performance.
Challenges and Solutions
The 12-week project involved replacing critical expansion joints without disrupting hospital operations. Our engineers expertly managed spatial constraints and coordinated with hospital staff to ensure continuous service. Our tailored design solutions and meticulous planning allowed us to address these challenges effectively.
Results and Impact
The upgraded expansion joints have enhanced system reliability and reduced maintenance costs. This improvement ensures consistent performance in hot and chilled water systems, supporting smoother hospital operations. EP Consulting's expertise has strengthened the hospital's infrastructure, aligning with our commitment to effective engineering solutions.
