Clay Cross Community Hospital Water Heater Upgrade
EP Consulting proudly led the £96k upgrade of the water heating system at Clay Cross Community Hospital in Chesterfield. This project for Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Trust demonstrates our commitment to enhancing healthcare facilities through innovative engineering solutions.
Scope of Work
Our expert team delivered a comprehensive range of services, including feasibility studies, budget costing, and mechanical design. We facilitated the installation of a vertical copper storage vessel, which ensures efficient hot water storage and maintains optimal temperature through its excellent heat conductivity.
Additionally, we installed two Ormandy Rycroft Vari-E-Breeze packaged plate heat exchangers. These units efficiently transfer heat to the water, improving the system's energy efficiency. We also updated the Building Management System (BMS) to automate the new water heating and boiler systems, ensuring compliance with Part L2 Building Regulations.
Challenges and Solutions
Replacing dual water heaters with a modern, efficient system within a tight 10-week schedule required precise planning. Our engineers navigated spatial constraints to seamlessly integrate the new equipment and modify the BMS. Through strategic design and innovation, we ensured minimal disruption to hospital operations and optimised system performance.
Results and Impact
The successful installation has significantly enhanced the hospital’s energy efficiency and reliability. The new system improves patient comfort by ensuring a consistent supply of hot water while contributing to operational sustainability by reducing energy consumption and maintenance costs.
