St Michael on the Mount, a £700k Conversion of a Grade II Listed Building
EP Consulting successfully completed a £700,000 conversion of the Grade II listed St Michael on the Mount church in Lincoln. This project transformed the historic church into modern accommodation for the Diocese of Lincoln, complementing the existing conference, office, and wedding facilities at the adjacent medieval Bishop’s Palace.
Scope of Work
Our team provided feasibility studies, budget costing, and comprehensive mechanical and electrical design services for the conversion. The project required integrating contemporary amenities while preserving the church’s architectural integrity. We produced a thermal model for the building to ensure optimal energy efficiency, created a BRUKL report and ensured compliance with Part L2 Building Regulations. Our design included state-of-the-art heating, ventilation, and electrical systems tailored to the church’s unique layout.
Challenges and Solutions
Modernising the church while preserving its historical features was a primary challenge. EP Consulting addressed this by designing systems that respected the building’s heritage while seamlessly integrating modern mechanical and electrical infrastructure. We collaborated closely with conservation experts to maintain the building’s character and enhance its functionality and energy efficiency.
Results and Impact
The converted St Michael on the Mount now provides high-quality accommodation linked to the Bishop’s Palace, enhancing its role as a versatile venue for conferences, offices, and weddings. EP Consulting’s expertise in sustainable design and heritage preservation ensures that the building meets modern standards while celebrating its historical significance.
