Matlock Fire Station, All-Electric and Sustainable
EP Consulting proudly contributed to the development of the new all-electric fire station for Derbyshire Fire & Rescue in Matlock, a project valued at £4.35 million. Designed with sustainability at its core, the station has achieved a BREEAM "Very Good" rating, reflecting our commitment to energy efficiency and modern building practices.
Scope of Work
Our team executed a comprehensive mechanical and electrical design strategy for this cutting-edge facility. We integrated advanced features, including photovoltaic solar panels, LED lighting, Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) heat pumps, and EV charging points. Additionally, we designed gender-neutral changing pods and specialized training areas, including a smoke house for realistic fire rescue training. Our detailed design ensured compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
Challenges and Solutions
The project presented unique challenges, notably the need for a fully functional, energy-efficient structure that accommodates the specific needs of fire service training. Our engineers tackled these challenges by innovatively integrating renewable technologies and creating versatile training spaces, within a 52 week on-site build programme.
Results and Impact
The new fire station not only enhances Derbyshire Fire & Rescue’s operational capabilities but also sets a benchmark for future sustainable public buildings. With an A EPC rating of 5 and advanced facilities, it embodies our expertise in delivering high-quality, environmentally responsible engineering solutions, reinforcing EP Consulting’s reputation as a trusted partner in the building services sector.
