Worksop College Boarding Accommodation

EP Consulting has successfully completed a prestigious £4.5m development at Worksop College in Nottinghamshire. This project involved creating a modern 60-bed boys' boarding accommodation, alongside a Housemaster’s 3-bedroom house and two Assistant Housemasters’ flats, replacing outdated facilities within the main school building.

Scope of Work

EP Consulting provided a full spectrum of mechanical and electrical (M&E) services, including performance design and consultancy. Our comprehensive approach included feasibility studies, budget costing, and mechanical and electrical design, all carried out with strict adherence to Part L2 Building Regulations. We produced a thermal model for the building to optimise the building's energy performance and created a BRUKL report.

Valued at approximately £1m, the M&E services package featured the installation of ground source heat pumps and energy-efficient LED lighting, both aimed at enhancing sustainability and reducing operational costs.

Challenges and Solutions

The project required the integration of advanced low carbon and zero carbon technologies while maintaining the aesthetic and functional needs of the boarding school environment. EP Consulting’s expertise ensured the seamless incorporation of ground source heat pumps and LED lighting, delivering both sustainability and efficiency without compromising on design.

Results and Impact 

Completed within a 60-week timeframe, the new boarding accommodation at Worksop College exemplifies modern sustainable design. The incorporation of renewable energy solutions and efficient lighting systems has not only reduced running costs but also significantly improved the college's environmental footprint.
