Toot Hill School's Sustainable New Teaching Block
EP Consulting played a pivotal role in the £3.5m EFA-funded development of a state-of-the-art teaching block at Toot Hill School in Bingham, Nottinghamshire. The new facility features nineteen classrooms, seminar rooms, an open study area, and a kitchen and dining hall, all designed with passive and sustainable technologies to minimise carbon emissions.
Scope of Work
Our team delivered a comprehensive Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) design package for this project. This included conducting feasibility studies, budget costing, and detailed mechanical and electrical design, while ensuring full compliance with Part L2 Building Regulations. Our design also focused on integrating low carbon and zero carbon installations, renewable energy solutions, and advanced thermal modelling to maximise efficiency and sustainability.
Challenges and Solutions
Incorporating passive stack ventilation, a natural ventilation strategy, LED lighting, and photovoltaic panels required detailed planning and collaboration. EP Consulting worked closely with Franklin Ellis Architects and Synergy Construction & Property Consultants LLP to ensure these sustainable technologies were seamlessly integrated into this new build development, enhancing energy efficiency and reducing the building’s carbon emissions.
Results and Impact
Completed within a 52-week timeframe, the new teaching block at Toot Hill School has significantly upgraded the school's facilities. The successful integration of sustainable technologies not only reduces the building’s carbon footprint but also provides a modern, energy-efficient, and conducive learning environment.
EP Consulting’s expertise in M&E design and renewable energy solutions has ensured that the new facility meets the highest standards of sustainability and functionality, aligning with the school’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
