Loughborough Grammar School, Modern Sixth Form Centre Design
EP Consulting are proud to have completed the £500k refurbishment of Loughborough Grammar School’s Tower Building, a Grade II listed structure dating back to 1852. The project transformed the building into a modern Sixth Form Centre, offering a light, open environment for students to work and socialise, while preserving its historic charm.
Scope of Work
EP Consulting provided mechanical and electrical design, including modifications to low pressure hot water (LPHW) services, ventilation systems, and domestic water services. Electrical upgrades included new lighting, fire alarms, and access control systems.
Key features included a new staircase and a bespoke ceiling to maximise natural light and elevate the ambience of new social and workspaces alike. All building services were discreetly integrated to maintain the historical façade, creating a seamless blend of old and new.
Challenges and Solutions
Working within a listed building required careful attention to detail. Our team designed concealed mechanical and electrical systems to preserve the historical features while ensuring modern functionality. Collaboration with stakeholders ensured the project met both aesthetic and sustainability goals, providing energy-efficient solutions without compromising on design integrity.
Results and Impact
The refurbished Tower Building now offers a university-style atmosphere, enhancing the student experience with both functional and comfortable spaces. The project highlights EP Consulting’s expertise in delivering innovative, sustainable solutions for complex, heritage-listed buildings.
