Oakham Library & Children's Centre Extension and Refurbishment
EP Consulting successfully completed the £280k extension and refurbishment of Oakham Library & Children's Centre for Rutland County Council. This project demonstrates our ability to improve public spaces through innovative and cost-effective building services engineering.
Scope of Work
Our role involved a comprehensive review of the existing mechanical and electrical (M&E) services within the building. We provided design solutions that not only enhanced the functionality of the new extension but also identified cost savings. Key upgrades included improved lighting, heating, and ventilation systems, creating a more comfortable and welcoming environment for all users.
Challenges and Solutions
Conducting this refurbishment within an operational library and children’s centre required careful planning and execution. We conducted detailed feasibility studies and budget costing to ensure efficient mechanical and electrical designs. We optimised the building's energy performance while maintaining functionality and sustainability. We produced a thermal model for the building, created a BRUKL report and ensured compliance with Part L2 Building Regulations.
Results and Impact
The project was completed within the 26-week schedule and on budget. The enhancements to the M&E systems have significantly improved the facility’s usability and comfort, providing a better environment for both visitors and staff. This project underscores EP Consulting’s expertise in delivering tailored engineering solutions for public sector clients and reinforces our reputation for reliability and excellence in building services engineering.
