Usher Gallery Accessibility Upgrade
EP Consulting played a crucial role in the £1.1m access improvement project at the Grade 2* Listed Usher Gallery in Lincoln. Our mission was to enhance accessibility in compliance with DDA legislation while preserving the historical integrity of the Gallery and its surrounding Temple Gardens.
Scope of Work
Our comprehensive services for the Usher Gallery project included feasibility studies, budget costing, and detailed mechanical and electrical design. We ensured strict adherence to Part L2 Building Regulations and crafted solutions that honoured the site's historical and archaeological significance. Key elements of the project included the installation of a passenger/goods lift and fully automatic entrance doors, with all associated mechanical and electrical systems designed to seamlessly blend with the Gallery’s historic character.
Challenges and Solutions
The complexity of working within a Grade 2* Listed building and an Ancient Scheduled Monument demanded meticulous planning. EP Consulting faced the challenge of integrating modern accessibility features, such as the lift and entrance doors, without compromising the site's historical and archaeological integrity. Our tailored designs ensured that contemporary amenities were incorporated sensitively and effectively, preserving the Gallery’s historic charm.

Completed in just 20 weeks, the Usher Gallery offers improved accessibility while maintaining its historical significance.
