Sharpes Pottery Museum Restoration Project
EP Consulting played a crucial role in the £360k restoration of Sharpes Pottery Museum in Swadlincote, commissioned by English Heritage. This project focused on preserving and enhancing the circa 1821 buildings, celebrating South Derbyshire's rich pottery heritage.
Scope of Work
Our team delivered a comprehensive mechanical and electrical (M&E) design package, including feasibility studies, budget costing, and detailed mechanical and electrical design. We ensured compliance with all relevant regulations while integrating modern systems seamlessly into the historic fabric of the building. Key aspects included the installation of automatic control systems for the gas-fired boiler plant, water heaters, ventilation, underfloor heating, and a centralised Energy Management System.
Challenges and Solutions
The restoration required careful integration of modern systems, such as power, lighting, emergency lighting, fire alarms, and security systems, without compromising the building’s historical integrity. EP Consulting's innovative design solutions ensured that these systems were effectively incorporated while preserving the character of the museum.
Results and Impact
The successful restoration has revitalised Sharpes Pottery Museum, combining historical preservation with modern functionality. EP Consulting's expertise in M&E design has enhanced the museum’s operational efficiency and sustainability, reinforcing its role in educating the public about South Derbyshire's pottery heritage. Our commitment to excellence is evident in this project, highlighting our capability in handling heritage restoration with sensitivity and precision.
