EP Consulting is proud to have delivered the mechanical and electrical (M&E) design for the £2.1 million refurbishment of Alford Manor House, supporting East Lindsey District Council in safeguarding one of Lincolnshire's most treasured historic buildings.

Built in 1611, the Grade II* listed Manor House is the UK's largest thatched manor house. The refurbishment has created a vibrant community destination while ensuring the building is equipped to meet modern operational and environmental standards.

The Brief

The project centred on creating a permanent, year-round events venue alongside improved visitor facilities, while carefully protecting the character of this nationally important heritage asset.

Our role was to design building services that would improve comfort, efficiency and long-term performance without compromising the historic fabric of the site.

Our Contribution

EP Consulting provided the complete mechanical and electrical design, including:

•       Air source heat pump technology

•       Solar photovoltaic (PV) systems

•       Energy-efficient heating

•       Electrical infrastructure and power distribution

•       Building services coordination

Each element was carefully integrated to support the building's future use while respecting its architectural significance.

The Outcome

The completed development provides a modern, flexible venue capable of hosting community events, weddings, concerts, exhibitions and educational activities throughout the year.

Alongside new visitor facilities, the project includes renewable energy technologies, improved accessibility and upgraded infrastructure, helping to reduce operating costs and support the Manor House's long-term future.

This investment ensures Alford Manor House remains an important cultural destination, preserving over four centuries of history while providing facilities that will benefit the local community for generations to come.
