Sustainable Heritage Hub for Heanor Completed
EP Consulting is proud to announce the completion of the transformation of the former Heanor Grammar School into a modern, sustainable civic and business hub. Commissioned by Amber Valley Borough Council and supported by the Future High Streets Fund, this Grade II listed building has been sensitively refurbished to deliver long-term community and economic value.
Our engineers carried out the full mechanical and electrical design, with fully electric M&E systems, incorporating air-source heating, enhanced insulation and high-efficiency ventilation to significantly improve energy performance. Fibre-ready digital infrastructure ensures the building can support a wide range of modern public and commercial uses. All services were carefully concealed to protect the historic fabric, while key heritage features, including the iconic copper cupola, were restored to their original prominence.
Working within the constraints of a heritage asset, our approach balanced sustainability, functionality and conservation. The result is a future-ready civic hub that enhances Heanor’s town centre, supports local business growth and preserves an important architectural landmark.
