Free People Scotland, Behind the M&E Design
EP Consulting recently delivered the mechanical and electrical (M&E) design for the first Free People store in Scotland, located in Edinburgh, which opened earlier this year.
Retail fit-outs like this highlight how critical building services engineering is to creating spaces that are both functional and brand-focused. While customers see the finished store, behind the scenes, careful planning ensures systems perform efficiently and reliably from day one.
Our scope included lighting design, small power, ventilation, HVAC, and energy-efficient system integration, all tailored to meet both the operational needs of the store and the brand’s in-store experience. Early-stage M&E design coordination was key to avoiding delays, optimising performance, and supporting a smooth fit-out process.
This project reflects EP Consulting’s approach to delivering practical, sustainable, and energy-conscious building services solutions for retail clients, NHS projects, local authorities, and commercial fit-outs across the UK.
It’s rewarding to see our designs in action and this store is a great example of collaboration, precision engineering, and sustainable design working together.
