EP Consulting Delivers M&E Design for Walton Hospital CDC
EP Consulting is proud to have delivered the Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) Design for the new £5.2m Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) at Walton Hospital in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. The purpose-built facility, which opened on 1 September 2025, represents a major investment in community healthcare and a step forward in the NHS’s ambition to bring services closer to patients.
Developed in partnership with Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust, Chesterfield Royal NHS Foundation Trust and Actiform as construction partner, the Walton CDC is part of a wider £29.9m programme of diagnostic centres across Derbyshire.
The state-of-the-art centre provides a range of services including ultrasound, CT and x-ray imaging, blood tests, audiology and cardio-respiratory assessments. Designed as a ‘one-stop shop’, it reduces waiting times and helps ease pressure on acute hospitals. More than 4,000 diagnostic tests are expected to take place within the first month alone, many at evenings and weekends for improved patient access.
EP Consulting’s building services engineers combined sustainable, energy-efficient design with technical excellence to deliver a modern healthcare facility that supports staff and enhances patient wellbeing. The project reflects EP Consulting’s expertise in M&E design for NHS hospitals, councils and public sector clients across the UK, helping to shape healthcare spaces that are efficient, resilient and future-ready.
