A Very Tight Fit
Work is continuing at Spilsby Theatre, where two Air Handling Units (AHUs) have recently been lifted into position as part of the ongoing refurbishment of the Grade II listed building.
EP Consulting is proud to be providing the mechanical and electrical engineering design for the Spilsby Theatre project for East Lindsay District Council. Our work includes the design and coordination of the building services required as the historic building is brought back into use.
The photographs show just how tight the fit was. The two AHUs are being installed within the Portico Returns, with one serving each half of the theatre from the east and west sides. Getting the units into position required very careful planning and coordination on site, with the AHUs having to be carefully manoeuvred into what was a very restricted space.
It’s a good example of some of the challenges involved in bringing modern building services into an older building. The ventilation system needs to provide the performance expected of a modern theatre, while the equipment and services have to work within the constraints of the existing Grade II listed structure.
The project is still underway, but it’s great to see the AHUs now in position and another part of the building services installation taking shape.
