Oakham Castle Restoration Project

Rutland

A £2.1m second phase Heritage Lottery Funded project for Rutland County Council to restore the 12th Century Oakham Castle to create a cultural centre for Rutland. The project involved a great deal of thought and consideration to ensure the mechanical and electrical services were sympathetically designed to blend with the structure of the building.

The works consisted of external and internal lighting solutions, services for a newly formed toilet block and storage facility together with the associated drainage and heating works, and an exhibition fit out to interpret the Castle and its history.

Part of the remit was to also ensure the future economic and environmental sustainability of the Castle.
